I am fiercely passionate about sharing my experience honestly, while also bringing factual information into the conversation. I want to be clear that my goal is not to make you “take a side” but to use my experience to educate others.

In December of 2020 I fell victim to the manipulation of obstetric care and chose an induction for our fourth baby out of fear. My induction was, in my opinion, unnecessary (based on the evidence for MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE), and though I do not have to prove it to anyone, I’m going to take the time to do so.

Too many women, myself included, have fallen (and still fall) prey to manipulation in the medical system as it comes to birth. Too many women, myself included, have made decisions from a place of fear because of alarming statistics (often inflated, or used out of context) and not from a grounded place of sovereignty after properly hearing all of their options, and being *given appropriate time* to choose.

This is coercion. Oh wait, you don’t agree? Is it because you don’t understand what the threat is or that they’re even pushing one? The threat is, “do as I say, OR ELSE this could possibly happen and kill your baby.” That’s not informed care. That’s manipulation, point blank.

In any other relationship, we would call this type of manipulation abusive. Why do we flinch at the term when we call abuse in birth work what it is?

The Risks (they “forgot” to mention at my 37 week appointment) of Inductions:

  • Failed induction
  • Infection
  • Uterine rupture
  • Decreased fetal heart rate
  • Increased risk of C-section
  • Hemorrhaging after birth
